Sustainable Ways to Meet in Phoenix

In an age where sustainability is more important than ever, few cities are going green as quickly as Phoenix, Arizona.

Phoenix's commitment to sustainability is deeply rooted in its rich history, dating back to the ancient Hohokam civilization. Over a thousand years ago, the Hohokam people ingeniously crafted an intricate network of canals, harnessing the desert's scarce water resources to cultivate the land and sustain their communities. These canals laid the foundation for modern-day Phoenix, serving as a testament to human ingenuity in adapting to the challenges of the desert environment.

Today, Phoenix is embracing sustainable practices with gusto, investing millions of dollars in infrastructure to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve its goals.  As eco-friendly as it is scenic, Phoenix is a sustainable desert city that is the perfect choice for meeting planners looking to go green.

In the long term, Phoenix has highly ambitious goals: zero carbon, zero waste, clean air, a 100-year water supply, and parks and transit in every neighborhood.  In the short term, their goal of a 50% reduction in carbon by 2030 is quickly coming into reach.  Phoenix has invested over $700 million within the last seven years in a variety of sustainability projects to help it meet its goals.  This includes over $530 million in transit to extend bus operating hours and ensure they’re running more frequently.

As any meeting planner knows, a robust transit system is incredibly helpful for ferreting attendees from hotels to convention centers, meeting places, and more.  Phoenix has not only made transit a major priority, but also has plans to extend its Light Rail to south, west, and north Phoenix.  The Light Rail currently provides access to and from PHX airport, allowing visitors to skip the rental car and rely on a more eco-friendly way of getting around.
